MESSAGE BOARD.
E Mail from our Chairman, Mike Barr 10th August 2020 :-
Hello Everyone.
Time for another update. I hope you are all keeping well and managing meet up with friends and family. On Thursday 6th August the Committee held a meeting in our garden with strict social distancing. Some necessary and key decisions were made :-
1. Betty produced the end of year accounts which were examined, questions answered and then approved by the Committee. A copy of the accounts will be posted on the website.
2. Rehearsals will not commence in September and although National Advice will continue to be followed, it is considered that it is unlikely for rehearsals to begin before January 2021. The Committee agreed that the level of subscriptions will be determined when a start date is known.
3. It was agreed that it will not be feasible to hold an AGM in October and the present Committee will continue to serve for the next 12 months. This departure from the Constitution is being followed by many other charitable organisations.
Prior to the Committee meeting Stephen sent an email setting out some possible future events. and this is attached.
Also for your enjoyment and amusement Betty has produced another quiz.
Regards,
Mike

Dear Friends,
I hope you have survived these unimaginable times with your health and your sanity (well, almost, at any rate!) intact.
Looking ahead, I thought I would update you on plans and news for now, and the upcoming season:

AUTUMN 2020 - It seems unlikely that choirs will be able to plan live (audience) concerts in the Autumn so I propose to hold 4 workshops (for our own amusement/enjoyment)on the following dates:
November 7th; 14th; 21st; 28th on various works, either at St. Martin's Church, Dorking, or where social distancing can be effectively respected etc.

GOOD FRIDAY 2021 - Rutter Requiem at St. Martin's, Dorking
This is the re-scheduled performance that had to be cancelled this year.
SOUTH OF FRANCE TOUR 2021 - 31st May - 6th June inclusive
This year's tour has been rescheduled for the above dates. Anyone who was unable to come this year and would like to join us for the rescheduled dates - please do get in touch - you will be very welcome!

E Mail from our Chairman, Mike Barr 30th March 2020 :-
I hope you are all coping in these difficult times and that you are keeping well. I just wanted to let you know that the start of the Summer Term on 20th April is not going to happen. The situation will be kept under review and we will let you know when we can meet again. The Auction of Promises is postponed from 5th June and a new date will be fixed as soon as possible.
Some of you may like to join in GARETH MALONES GREAT BRITISH HOME CHOIR and you join on you tube. Some of his clapping exercises are even more than Stephen`s !
Kind Regards, Keep Well.

Hired Music - A Plea from the Librarian
It would be really helpful if you are able to erase any old markings on receipt of your scores and then please use minimal light soft pencil marks during rehearsals. No felt tips/highlighters etc.
Please make sure that your score is returned immediately after the concert, there are crates for copies near staging or door.
If you are unable to take part in the performance, please return your copy before hand, or contact me as soon as possible to arrange for its return.

Of interest to members may be these images of previous "Elijah" performance programmes.
The image on the left was the first concert conducted by Berkeley Hill as Musical Director. The image to the right was a performance given before the formation of the FCS. The choir was then the known as the "Folkestone Orpheus Choir" and they performed with other choirs in the district for this performance.

ChoraLine - SATB Voice Part Rehearsal & Learning CD`s & MP3`s at ChoraLine recordings are learning tools, specifically created to help choral singers memorise their vocal line and practise between choir rehearsals.
On your ChoraLine recording you will hear a synthetic reconstruction of the music at a neutral tempo and dynamic, featuring a voice-over that provides helpful instruction in the form of count-ins and entry cues.
A specific ChoraLine recording has been created for each voice part, represented in the foreground by the sound of a corresponding orchestral instrument; on the Soprano disc, the part is represented by the sound of solo flute. Alto is represented by the oboe, Tenor by the French Horn, and Bass by the Bassoon. Orchestral instruments, rather than real voices, are used to play the vocal lines for added clarity and to provide a wordless melody line. Decisions regarding nuances of performance, language and pronunciation - are therefore left to the discretion of your choirmaster.
